Psycho-educational groups dedicated to individuals working towards full recovery of their eating disorder. Group sessions aim to build peer connection and develop a sense of shared experience with others in similar situations. What is ‘psycho-education’ and how is it different from counselling? Psycho-education provides a mix of education, information, and emotional support related to the topic(s) of interest, as well as tools and strategies for managing challenging life situations and relationships. This type of support is extremely valuable for fostering peer relationships, a shared understanding, and connection.
WHAT I DO
My Services

During this no-obligation free call, you have the opportunity to ask questions and together we can assess if we are a good fit.
Assessment will include gathering information about eating and exercise behaviours, development of the eating problem, and history of treatment, as well as gathering information about general mental health. For adolescents the assessment will include family/caregivers. The assessment sessions typically takes 50-60 minutes.
Once assessment is complete, we will collaborate on treatment plan and establish a treatment team. Throughout therapy the therapist will collaborate with your treatment team (eg. doctor, paediatrician, nurse practitioner, psychiatrist, dietitian, school support etc.) to ensure consistency of care.
The therapeutic model, number of sessions, and duration of therapy varies depending on eating disorder symptoms, longevity of eating disorder, previous treatment, readiness for change, and concurrent mental health challenges.
Youth:
Family Based Treatment typically composes of 10-20 family sessions taking place over at least 6 months to 1 year.
Adults:
Length of therapy varies depending on ED symptoms as well as client goals of treatment.
Ditching Diet Culture:
Going from chronic dieting to food and body freedom can vary for clients, however typically takes from 5 – 15 sessions
Group programming may be offered as an adjunct to therapy.
Therapeutic goals have been met, whether that be increased quality of life, becoming an intuitive eater, full recovery from an eating disorder or a different service or level of care being an appropriate next step.
